29/08/10 Weekend Racing

Well done to both Jim Breen and Cheryl McNulty who ran a blustery Paisley Vision 10K this weekend. Congratulations once again to Cheryl who ran yet another PB, despite the conditions! And congratulations to both Michael Brawley and Marisa Reilly who also set PBs in the Strathclyde Park run on Saturday.

18/08/10 Marymass

Well done to all Harriers who took part in the Marymass 10K. Results and photographs now posted. Congratulations to Helen Whyte who once again won 1st in age category, clocking a PB in the process. Michael Maxton also ran a great race to finish with a PB. Jim Breen was the first Harrier over the line, with Claire Purdie finishing first for the women. At the end of this latest Grand Prix race John Berry continues to hold a strong lead at the top of the men's Grand Prix leaderboard, while Helen's PB takes her into first place in the women's.

18/08/10 Parkruns

The Hamilton Harriers continue to be well represented in the local Strathclyde Pk and Glasgow Parkruns this month, with Jim Breen, Cheryl McNulty, Stuart Boyd, Helen Whyte, Lyndsay Moffat, Neil Robbins and Michael Brawley sacraficing the Clubhouse saturday morning bacon rolls to race. Special mention to Stuart Boyd who clocked a PB this month.

07/08/10 Bella 5K

Well done to Ross Bickerstaff, Davie Kelly, Helen Whyte and Cheryl McNulty who ran this year's Bella 5K Road Race. Congratulations to Helen who won first in age category in the race and moves into joint first place with Claire Purdie in the women's Grand Prix. Cheryl clocked yet another PB, with Ross also running a Season's Best. Results and photographs now posted - includes a fabulous cake so avoid if you're hungry.

07/08/10 Islay Half

Congratulations to John Berry, Michael Maxton, Davie Dawson, and David Hay who picked up the second male team prize in a blustery Islay Half marathon. Well done also to Joanne Melarkey who was the sole female representative for the Harriers this year, netting an impressive 10 grand prix points for her efforts. John, who was the first past the finish line for the Club, retains a comfortable lead at the top of the men's Grand Prix leaderboard. Results now posted, photographs coming soon.

06/08/10 Bellahouston Belter

Well done to both Cheryl McNulty and Jim Breen who represented the Harriers at the Bellahouston Belter 10K. Cheryl, once again, ran a fantastic PB. Results and photographs now posted.

06/08/10 Dancing Divas

Photographs from the club's social evening held back in June are now uploaded. They certainly do the music justice and may even explain some of the injuries which have been mounting up over the summer months. Thanks to Davie Kelly for the photographs. Click here to view.

01/08/10 Ladies Grand Prix

Well done to Cheryl McNulty, Claire Purdie and Helen Whyte who ran the Helensburgh Half Marathon. With 3 racing, this now qualifies as a Grand Prix race. Cheryl, who ran a fantastic sub 1:55 in her first half marathon for the club, was the first Harrier home. Claire now extends her lead at the top of leaderboard to 5 points, with Helen moving into second place.

27/07/10 July Handicap

Congratulations to Jim Breen who clocked the fastest time around the new route to win this month's 5K handicap. Well done also to Helen Whyte, Justin Burns, Cheryl McNulty and Michael Maxton who earned PBs this month. Terry Grady extends his lead at the top of the leaderboard to 8 points, with only a single point separating Roy Foot in second place and Davie Dawson in third.

24/07/10 July Races

Well done to all Harriers who continue to pull on the racing shoes during the summer holiday months. Dave Adams Snr represented the Harriers in both the Girvan Half Marathon and the Moffat Gala 15K Run this month while Stuart Boyd, Veronica O'Neill, Helen Whyte and Marisa Reilly continued to take part in the Strathclyde Parkruns. Results now posted.

29/06/10 June Handicap

Congratulations to Cheryl McNulty who took over 2 minutes off last month's time to win this month's 5K Handicap. Well done also to Gary Mooney and Lynn Knox who also achieved course bests, and to Terry Grady who finished in 4th place to move into the lead in the overall standings at the halfway point of the 2010 series.

25/06/10 Calderglen Trail Races

Well done to everyone who ran the 2010 5K and 10K trail races. Congratulations to Michael Maxton who was the first harrier home in the 5K. John Berry finished a matter of seconds behind to extend his lead at the top of the Grand Prix Leaderboard once more. John was followed by both Clarie Purdie and Helen Whyte, with Claire taking the lead for the first time this year in the women's Grand Prix. Ross Bickerstaff, who was the first home for the harriers in the 10K race, was followed by both Davie Kelly and Cheryl McNulty. Results now posted.

20/06/10 Men's Health 10K

The Hamilton Harriers were well represented in this year's Men's Health for Men 10K with John Berry, Michael Maxton, David Hay, Davie Dawson, Ross Bickerstaff and Davie Kelly all taking part. John Berry, continuing his winning streak, was the first harrier to finish and scores maximum points in the Grand Prix once again. Results now posted.

13/06/10 A Personal Best Weekend

Well done to David Hay who clearly side-stepped the red wine on Friday night and continued from where he left off in Stranraer by setting PBs in both the Strathclyde Parkrun 5K on Saturday and then again in the Dunfermline Half Marathon on Sunday. Weekend results now posted.

13/06/10 Polaroid Series

Congratulations to Jim Breen who was the sole Harrier to complete all 4 road races in this year's Polaroid 10K Series and was never more than a minute away from his PB in any of them.

05/06/10 Men's Grand Prix Racing

John Berry, David Hay, Ross Bickerstaff and Davie Kelly all ran in Grand Prix listed races this weekend. Congratulations to John who finished third in age category in the Stranraer Half Marathon to extend his lead at the top of the leaderboard once again. He was followed by David Hay who netted an additional 2 points by setting a PB! Well done David. And well done to Ross Bickerstaff and Davie Kelly who ran the Haddington 5 mile road race. Ross earned maximum points in this race to maintain a 1 point lead over David Hay and 2nd place in the overall standings .

29/05/10 3rd Male Team Prize in Kirkcudbright

Congratulations to John Berry, Ross Bickerstaff and Davie Dawson who all ran a season's best in the Kircudbright Half Marathon, winning 3rd Male Team prize in the process. John was the first Harrier to cross the line, earning top marks in the Grand Prix and extending his lead at the top of the table to 9 points. Ross moves into second place in the overall standings after finishing the race between John and Davie. The Harriers were well represented in both the Half Marathon and the 11.2K Beeches Races. 25/05/10 May Handicap

Congratulations to Marisa Reilly who ran a very impressive PB to win this month's 5K Handicap race. Roy Foot moves to the top of the leaderboard after finishing 5th to take a narrow lead over Terry Grady in the overall standings. Results of the 4th race of the Series are now posted.

16/05/10 Monklands Half and 5K

Congratulations to Dave Adams Jnr who won this weekend's Monklands 5K Road Race! Well done also to John Berry and Roy Foot who ran in the Half Marathon. John was the first harrier home to move into first place at the top of the Grand Prix leader board while Roy also ran a great race, narrowly missing a PB by a mere 2 seconds. Results now posted.

15/05/10 Loch Leven Half Marathon

Well done to Dave Adams Snr who travelled slightly further afield to run the Loch Leven Half Marathon in Kinross. Dave has highly recommended this race - interesting course, but more importantly good food at the finish!

09/05/10 Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K

Claire Purdie dusted herself down after the disappointment of missing Boston and was the first Harrier home in this year's Women's 10K in Glasgow. She was followed by Helen Whyte, Veronica O'Neill and Lynn Knox, all 3 earning PBs in the process. Well done to all! Results and photographs now posted.

27/04/10 5K Handicap Series

Congratulations to Julie Rankin who took close to 1 min 30 sec off her best time to win this month's 5K handicap race! Well done to Julie and well done also to Terry Grady who finished third to secure a place at the top of the leaderboard after the 3rd race of the series. Many harriers earned a PB this month, but special mention to Grant McKenna who was not only one of the many this month but was also one of the few last month and was somehow overlooked in the March update.

18/04/10 Spring Marathons

The men were out in force at the Paris and Lochaber Marathons this month. Well done to Paulo Leite who finished the Marathon de Paris in under 3hrs30mins to make it home before the Ash Cloud, and to Jim Breen, Stuart Boyd and Willie Hamill who completed the Lochaber Marathon under the Ash Cloud. Both Jim and Stuart earned PBs into the bargain. Commiserations to Claire Purdie who trained hard to make it to the Boston Marathon start line and probably would have chanced flying into the ash and falling from the sky had it been an option.

18/04/10 Prizes and PBs Galore at the St Andrews Hospice Ladies 6K

Congratulations once again to Lindsey Gray who picked up a prize for finishing 3rd in age category at the St Andrews Hospice 6K. Two weeks, two prizes! Well done Lindsey! Special mention to Monique Duffy, Helen Whyte and Veronica O'Neill who also took part and earned themselves PBs in the process!

12/04/10 Tom Scott Round the Loch 6K Triumph for Ladies team

Congratulations to the Hamilton Harrier Ladies team who picked up first prize at the Tom Scott 6K Road Race. The team included Julie Rankin (30min 43s), Lindsey Gray (26min 51s) and Roz O'Hanlon-MacDonald (35min 07s). Well done girls! Full results and photos of the 6K and 10 mile road races are now posted.

12/04/10 Virgin London Marathon 2011 Club Place

Any Harriers who intend to run the Virgin London Marathon next year must first try to secure a place through the 2011 public ballot. Anyone who is rejected through this process can then apply for the Club place. Proof of rejection will be required. Please note that the ballot closed in record time last year (in under 3 days) due to the massive level of interest in this race. Please keep checking the Virgin London Marathon official website for details on how and when to enter the ballot which will take place this month.

30/03/10 5K Handicap Series

Well done to all who braved the rain, sleet, snow and wind to take part in the second handicap of the 2010 5K Series. Congratulations to Veronica O'Neill who won the race and earned a PB. Veronica takes a 3 point lead at the top of the leaderboard after this second race - now that definitely deserves a wine or two in celebration V! Well done to Peter Middleton, Roy Foot and Davie Dawson who also managed to battle the elements and finish with a PB this month. Results now posted.

28/03/10 Grangemouth 10k

Well done to all Harriers who ran the Grangemouth 10K at the end of March - thankfully more quickly than the time it has taken to post this update on the web! Congratulations to Monique Duffy who earned her second PB this year, extending her lead in the Ladies Grand Prix to 5 points.

27/02/10 Jack Crawford 10K

Well done to all Harriers who took part in the Jack Crawford Springburn Cup this weekend, despite wet and muddy conditions underfoot. Congratulations to both Monique Duffy and Lynn Knox who both earned PBs in spite of the conditions. Results now posted.

23/02/10 The 2010 5K Handicap Series Begins!

Congratulations to Neil Robbins who wins the first 5K Handicap of the 2010 series. A special mention also to Marisa Reilly who made her debut in tonight's race. The start position moves from Bothwell Primary School to the Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club for this year. Less hills apparently, so it should be much much easier. Says John. Results now posted.

20/02/10 Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club welcomes Hamilton Harriers

The Hamilton Harriers, represented by the regular Saturday morning bacon butty brigade, are officially welcomed to the Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club by Paul Hoffman.

 

20/02/10 David Hay wins the 2009/2010 XC Handicap Series

The 2009/2010 XC Handicap Series comes to a close, with David Hay scooping first prize with an impressive lead of 10 points. John Berry came second, followed closely by Davie Kelly in third. Well done to everyone who took part in this year's series which continued despite the challenging weather conditions. The introduction of Saturday morning bacon rolls no doubt provided a much needed boost towards the end. You might even see Claire,conspicuous by her absence from the leaderboard, popping up in the photographs sometime after their introduction. Full results and photographs can be viewed here .

Roz would like to extend thanks to the Harriers for her wedding present. She has been astounded by the kindness of everyone.

23/01/10 A Return to Racing

This weekend saw a return to road racing for many Harriers with the Club's Annual 10K Road Race and Sealed Handicap. Congratulations to Neil Robbins and Claire Purdie who won the men and women's road race, and to Monique Duffy who won the sealed handicap taking over 2 minutes out of her PB in the process. Neil has clearly missed racing during the big freeze, making the most of the thaw by running a course best in the Glasgow Park Run earlier the same day. Well done Neil. Well done also to Jim Breen who returned to racing in the same park run event. Full results and photographs of the Club's 10K Road Race can be viewed here.

16/01/10 Club XC Handicap Series Continues

Congratulations to David Hay who won this weekend's XC handicap race in style (a flash new pair of spikes apparently). Well done to John Berry and Davie Kelly who also turned out in the continuing cold and challenging conditions. John remains at the top of the leaderboard, leading David by 4 points.

15/01/10 Jack Crawford Springburn Cup Postponed

The Jack Crawford Springburn Cup which was to be held on Saturday 16th January has been postponed due to the weather and poor conditions underfoot. The race is now scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th February.

09/01/10 Club XC Handicap Series

Congratulations to Monique Duffy who won the fourth handicap race of this winter's XC Handicap Series. There have been rumours of secret squirrel extended lunchtime training sessions which have most definitely paid off as Monique also earned a PB into the bargain. Well done Monique! Conditions were apparently perfect (well, for polar bears perhaps), with fresh snow underfoot. John Berry finished second to extend his lead at the top of the leadership table to 4 points.

09/01/10 AGM AND 10k Sealed Handicap - 23rd January

This year's 10K Sealed Handicap well be held on Saturday 23rd January at 1pm, starting at Bothwell Primary School. The AGM will follow after the race.

08/01/10 Nigel Barge 10K Road Race Postponed

The Nigel Barge 10K Road Race which was to be held on Saturday 9th January has been postponed due to the weather and poor conditions underfoot. The race is now scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th March.

27/12/09 Cambuslang 10K Race

Well done to both Jim Breen and Neil Robbins who braved the challenging conditions and temperatures to take part in the post christmas Cambuslang race. Due to the dangerous conditions underfoot the road race was changed to a 6.7km XC race across the exceptionally boggy snow-covered rugby pitches. Jim found time to dash home and pick up his spikes before finishing 8th overall and collecting 3rd Vet prize. Neil finished a very respectable 11th overall.

19/12/09 Club XC Handicap Series in the Snow

Congratulations to Dave Adams Jnr who won the fourth handicap race of Club XC Handicap series, in a time equalling his PB. The course was covered in a blanket of snow and both John Berry and Davie Kelly took advantage of the harder conditions underfoot to finish with a PB today.

19/12/09 Glasgow Parkrun - Jim Breen moves up the rankings

Congratulations to Jim Breen who braved the baltic conditions to finish 4th overall, his highest placing yet, in this weekend's race in a very wintry Pollock Park.

12/12/09 Club XC Handicap Series in the Fog

Congratulations to Ross Bickerstaff who won the third handicap race of this winter's XC Handicap Series - the race was run in extremely foggy conditions but we totally believe him when he says he didn't take any shortcuts. Congratulations to both Ross and to Davie Kelly who earned themselves a PB this weekend.

12/12/09 Glasgow Parkrun Course PB for Jim Breen

Congratulations to Jim Breen who smashed his Glasgow Parkrun course best by 18 seconds to finish 5th overall and 1st Vet home in this weekend's race.

11/12/09 Annual 5K Christmas Handicap

The Hamilton Harriers 5K Christmas Handicap, held last Saturday, was deemed a great success. The Handicap was followed by the annual prize giving ceremony in the Pitz Soccer Academy in Hamilton. Once again the event was well supported, with over 20 members running the race and many more Harriers and family and friends turning out to cheer the runners around the 5K loop.

The handicap was won by David Kelly who ran a strong race to finish in 22 minutes 03 seconds, taking over one full minute off his PB. David finished 19 seconds ahead of Peter Middleton, who held valiantly on to second place. Neil Robbins, who finished third in a time of 17 minutes 35 seconds, clocked the fastest time of the day. During the prize giving ceremony, awards were presented to the winners of the Grand Prix League Series, the 5K Handicap Series, the monthly 5K Handicap races, the Endeavour prizes and the various Club organised races throughout the year. Special thanks to Warburtons who supplied an excellent selection of fruit loaves for participants and prize winners. Thanks are also extended to Mark Bryson who supplied the catering, Dave Adams Jnr who provided the entertainment and to Neil Robbins who reliably ensures there is water for everyone at the end of the handicap races.

01/12/09 The New Clubhouse

David Hay is now collecting forms and fees in preparation for moving into the new clubhouse. Please see David if you still need a form.
