The Motor Neurone Disease Road Races (4 and 6 miles) proved to be a massive success for the Hamilton Harriers Club. Twenty harriers raced today and scooped a number of the top prizes. Congratulations to everyone for the fund raising and the racing too! See results section for more info and around 60 photographs.
The club has raised approximately £2000 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charity. Club members are encouraged to come along to the races tomorrow (10/5/09) at 11am in Strathclyde Park to show our appreciation and support of this important charity organisation. You will also have the opportunity to have your photograph taken if you wish. We hope to present the cheque tomorrow to the MND charity official and have a group photo taken which we can pass on to the Hamilton Advertiser.
Well done to those brave souls who ventured out to run the Troon Tortoises 10K Road Race i.e. Tom Steel, Ross Bickerstaff, Graeme Pearson and Peter Middleton. See results section!
David Hay clocked a really good time in the Pittsburgh Marathon (USA) in 3hrs 56mins 09secs - well done!
Neil Robbins runs well in the Edinburgh to North Berwick 20 mile road race in 2hrs 19mins 17secs.
Well done to David Hay who tops the monthly 5K Handicap leaderboard on 20 points.

Well done to Willie Hamill (V76) who ran superbly in the Lochaber Marathon to clock a very impressive time of 4hrs 40mins 08secs - fab!
Well done to Andy McLinden who ran his maiden Parkrun 5K in an impressive time of 18mins 03secs.

Neil Robbins (V45) ran a stormer in the Chris Hoy Half Marathon in Edinburgh. Neil clocked a PB in 1hr 21mins 40secs - Fab! Well done Neil.
Gary Mooney (18) was the first Hamilton Harrier home in this year's Round the Houses 10K in Grangemouth. The conditions were not ideal - a bit windy.
Gary Mooney (18) ran superbly in this year's Scottish Athletics Junior Road Race Championships in East Kilbride. Gary was placed 14th in a top quality field and the majority of competitors were older than him. Well done Gary!
Lindsey Gray returned to good form with a PB (26mins 10secs) to snatch 4th place in the St Andrew's Hospice Lanarkshire Ladies 6K Road Race on Saturday 15th of March 2009.
Neil Robbins posted a very good time in this year's Alloa Half Marathon in 1hr 24mins 10secs, as did Willie Hamill (V76) in 2hrs 02mins 04secs. This was despite the very windy conditions. Well done also to Jim Breen, Michael Maxton and Grant McKenna who also ran the race.
Well done to Michael Maxton who battled bravely to win the first club 5K handicap race of the year. Well done also to Mark Bryson, Ross Bickerstaff, David Hay, Davie Kelly and Grant McKenna who braved the awful weather in this year's Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon.
Willie Hamill (V76) ran fantastically well in the 'Happy Feet' 10K in Maybole, Ayrshire. Willie finished 84th out of a total of 228 competitors - Fab!
Well done to Tom Steel who was the first Hamilton Harrier home in this year's ATHelite 5K Trail Race. Results now uploaded.

Well done to Gary Mooney who ran a stormer to win the Hamilton Harriers 10K Road Race in an impressive 35mins 40secs. Well done also to Mark Bryson who won the 10K Sealed Handicap, which was part of the same race.
This year's AGM will be held at 2pm in the Scottish Gas Rooms in Uddingston. The club's annual 10K sealed handicap will precede the meeting and is scheduled for a 1pm start.
Well done to Gary Mooney, Neil Robbins, Jim Breen and Brian Campbell who braved the Baltic conditions in this year's Cambuslang 10K.
Well done to both Neil Robbins and Claire McArthur in their splendid performances in this year's Ayr Turkey Trot 10K. Their times were 36mins 12secs and 38mins 00secs. Claire and Jim Breen will dispute the times shown on the result sheet as both feel they dipped under 38mins. Well done also to Tom Steel, Michael Maxton and Davie Kelly who ran well also.
Message from Jim Breen - Due to work commitments I will no longer be able to devote as much time updating the Hamilton Harriers Club website. I will be starting a research project at Glasgow University in January 2009 and I will need to devote most my 'free' time to it. Any club member who feels they can afford the time to maintain the website, then please email me and I will transfer the FTP details to you.
Message from the organisers of the 2009 Edinburgh Marathon - read it below
"Could you please pass on to your members that Running Club and Qualifying Standard entries to the 2009 Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon are set to close within the next two weeks. All entries to the marathon will close when we reach the 11,500 limit. With entries coming in at over 100 per day we predict that entries will close by Friday 19th December. "
Well done to Brian Campbell (V65) who was first placed in his age category and to Gary Mooney (U18) who ran superbly to finish 4th overall in the St Andrew's Day Saltire 6K Fun Run. Well done also to Neil Robbins, Jim Breen, Lindsey Gray and Joanne Melarkey who all ran a good race, despite the Baltic temperature which on the morning was minus 4 degrees.
Well done to Ross Bickerstaff who scoops the winners trophy in the 2008 Hamilton Harriers Club 5K Handicap Road Race. Gary Mooney (U18) runs the fastest time in the race and clocks a rare sub 17mins 5K - Well done Gary! Full results will be published once the time sheet has been recovered.
Gary Mooney (U18) runs a stormer in the Lanarkshire AAA Cross Country Championships to place 4th in the fantastic time of 34mins 35secs. Well done Gary!
Christmas Handicap 5K Road Race (29/11/08) - commences at 1.30pm at Bothwell loop. Prize-giving ceremony will be held in the Pitz Soccer Academy in Bothwell Road, Hamilton. Remember - no watches must be worn. Bring you 'Secret Santa' for the the prize-giving ceremony.
Hamilton Harriers record a good day at the races in this year's Strathaven 10K. Graeme Pearson (U20) sets a PB and is first in the Junior Category and Alex Robertson (V45) is first the V40 category and 4th overall. Neil Robbins (V45) sets a PB and is 3rd in the V40 category. Personal best times are also recorded by Michael Maxton (40.44), Andrew Stevenson (41.40) and David Hay (V40) [44.50]. Well done to all!
Hamilton Harriers scoop the Athletics Club Team Prize in the 2008 Great Scottish Run 10k.
Congratulations goes to Tom Steel who won the club's Half Marathon Handicap Race and set a PB into the bargain - well done Tom! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this event the success it was.
Well done to John Berry (the Blantyre Bullet) who was 2nd in the V50 category in the Stranraer 10K in the splendid time of 40mins 12secs.
Congratulations goes to David Hay who is now the overall winner the club's 5K Handicap Series. Well done also to Neil Robbins who clocked a PB in a time of 18mins 07secs to win October's 5K Monthly Handicap Race.
Well done to Willie Hamill (V75) who clocked a very impressive 1hr 55mins 26secs in the Scottish Masters Clydebank Half Marathon [5/10/08] and an equally impressive 52mins 41secs in the Scottish Masters 10K Track Championships at Coatbridge [19/10/08].
Alex Robertson (V45) ran superbly to win the Hamilton 5K Road Race. This was despite the fact he had to run an extra 200 to 300 yards. This also applied to Dave Adams (jnr) and young Gary Mooney who both ran exceptionally well. The rest of the Hamilton Harriers were lucky since the stewards soon recognised they had misplaced the turning point marker, so the finish times for these harriers is accurate. Well done to Alex who scooped the winner's prize. Race times will be posted shortly.
Well done to Peter Middleton who ran superbly to win September's club 5K handicap race. Well done also to Andy Stevenson, Michael Maxton, David Hay and newcomer Andy Pearson who all clocked PB's in tonight's race.
Congratulations goes to Claire Purdie who clocked a PB in the 2008 Berlin Marathon. Claire's time was 3hrs 37mins 20secs.
Well done to Claire McArthur (1hr 26mins 25secs) and Claire Purdie (1hr 39mins 25secs) who both set PB's in the 2008 Fresh 'n' Low Great Scottish Run. Well done to each of of the twenty Hamilton Harriers who participated in both the 10K and Half Marathon races.
Well done to Willie Hamill (V75) who clocked a fabulous time in the Moray Marathon in 4hrs 28mins 32secs.
Claire Purdie surges ahead to win the August 5K Handicap Race and clocks a PB in the process - well done!
There was a good turn out for the St Andrew's Hospice 10K Race on Saturday 23/8/08. Ten Hamilton Harriers participated in the run. Andrew Stevenson (41mins 20secs) and David Hay (47mins 45secs) both clocked a personal best time - well done!
Well Done to Claire McArthur (39mins 04secs) who was the winner of the female category and to Dave Adams jnr (35mins 39secs) and Claire Purdie (44mins 33secs) who all clocked a PB at the Irvine Marymass 10K on 20/8/08. Brian Campbell (V65) was the first over 60 and clocked an amazing 38mins 50secs. Jim Breen clocked 38mins 12secs.
Claire McArthur is a bit stretched with commitments at the moment and as a consequence is withdrawing from the club committee. We thank Claire for the work she devoted to the committee. This, however, leaves a space for any other club member who may wish to devote some time to committee meetings etc.
Well Done to Claire Purdie who clocked a PB in the Achilles Heel 5K in 21mins 41secs.
David Hay now leads the 5K Monthly Handicap leader board by 5 points.
Well done to David Hay who wins this months (June) 5K handicap race in impressive style and clocks a PB into the bargain. Well done also to Michael Maxton who clocked a PB in the Isle of Arran Half Marathon in 1hr 31mins 59secs.

Terry Grady clocks a PB in the East End 5K in 19mins 31secs to scoop the first over 50 prize and finish in the top ten. It was a large field of over 1500 runners. Well done Terry!
Dave Adams (jnr) clocks a PB in the Calderglen 5K Trail Race in a time of 16mins 24secs to finish 3rd overall. Well done Dave!

Michael Maxton runs a stormer and shaves 7 minutes of his PB in the Diet Coke Half Marathon in East Kilbride to clock 1hr 32mins 27secs. Well done Michael! Claire McArthur clocks a PB as well in 1hr 30mins 10secs. Well done Claire!
Gareth Fletcher, a post graduate sports nutrition student from Glasgow University, contacted the club with a view to persuading a few female volunteers from our club to take part in a nutrition based study. The study will examine the differences, if any, that a low and high GI diet have on endurance performance. Interested - click here to read his letter.

The two Claire's set PB's in the Polaroid Dumbarton 10K, despite having to battle through dreadful weather conditions. Claire McArthur's PB was 40mins 37secs and Claire Purdie's PB was 46mins 00secs. Well done to both of you!

Congratulations to Joanne Melarkey and David Hay who both set PB's in the Polaroid Clydebank 10K on Thursday 29th May. Joanne becomes only the third female Hamilton Harrier to dip under 50 mins for the 10K distance. Sarah Knox clocked a respectable time also. See results section.

Results from Edinburgh Marathon have now been published. Claire McArthur ran a stormer to finish on 3hrs 22mins 21 secs (PB), despite the very windy conditions. She went the whole distance in the final sprint to outpace Jim Breen (3hrs 21mins 15 secs), who stupidly stopped 100yds short of the finish line. So well done Claire - fab! Dave Perrett also clocked an extremely impressive 3hrs 12mins 24secs. Paolo Leite did fantastically well also to clock 3hrs 35mins 53secs. Finally, Davie Dawson hung on in there to clock 4hrs 30mins 01secs. Well done everyone!

Well done to all those Hamilton Harriers who raced at the weekend. A special note of praise is extended to both Dave Adams and Claire McArthur. Dave won two races at the weekend, namely the Deafblind 5K in Bishopbriggs and the Scottish Motor Neurone 6K at Strathclyde Park. Claire clocked a very impressive PB in the Dunfermline Half Marathon (1hr 30mins 57secs) - fab!
Congratulations to Grant McKenna who stormed ahead to win the April 5K Handicap Race and to Claire Purdie who clocked an impressive 22mins 36secs in her debut.

Flora London Marathon 2008 - congratulations to Claire McArthur who finished in 3hrs 33mins 24secs and to Derek Boyd who finished in 4hrs 42mins 11secs. Well done Claire and Derek! Robert Gilroy (former Hamilton Harrier) clocked a mighty impressive 2hrs 30mins - superb!

REMARKABLE PERFORMANCES - four of our female harriers clocked personal bests (PB's) at the weekend (9/3/08). Claire McArthur knocked a massive 8 minutes of her previous PB in the Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon to clock an extremely impressive 1 hr 35 mins 29 secs. Joanne Melarkey and George Sword set PB's also in (1hr 49mins 25secs) & (2hrs 2mins 59secs) respectively. Lesley Ann Taylor, Dawn Buchanan and Sarah Knox each clocked PB's in the Inverness Half Marathon. Their PB times are as follows: Lesley Ann (1 hr 48 mins 16 secs), Dawn (1 hr 53 mins 16 secs), Sarah (1 hr 57 mins 39 secs). Well done to all. This was all the more remarkable since it was Lesley Ann's first ever Half Marathon race.
